Ái-Vi is an interdisciplinary illustrator that Graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with the BFA in Illustration. Her art practice focuses primarily on Printmaking, Collage, Surface Design, Fibers art and zines. Being verse in both traditional and digital media, she tends to unite the two processes to create her Illustrations.
Her works include abstracted life forms as characters. This, infused with the cultural and emotional exploration of an individual’s experience as a female asian american through symbols, makes whimsical worlds. Plant sublimation and personification of the botanic and organic life plays as an icon for the viewer to insert themselves into the piece. Escapism is a large aspect of the work, once again using these small characters to see a new and optimistic perspective on the world. The process of creating a piece is often times an intuitive build up, reactions of previous moves and marks to create a whole. These are usually paired with others in a series, often of a small and intimate in size.
She is now a professional screen printer at Sage Screenprinting and a Freelance artist, contributing to local markets in Baltimore.
